So I've started this blog, largely to fill the time in my days now I've entered the realms of the unemployed. I expect it will be mostly filled with my atheist ranting, and once I get back from travelling my moans about lack of jobs. Or my lack of knowing what career path I want to follow. You'd think after 4 years of a degree I'd know what I wanted to do with my life.

I thought I wanted to do a PhD and sometimes I still do, but on the other end of the scale I prefer writing and think the communication of science is as important as the research itself. Too many people in this country have no idea what the theory of evolution is, and I think that is a failing of science. I remember having a conversation with a Mormon on my doorstep, and he actually came out with 'isn't that the theory saying we all come from monkeys?' He was the living caricature of someone with no understanding of evolution. Here he was on my doorstep, trying to convince me to follow his religion, with no understanding of why I didn't believe him. Somewhere along the line there was a failing in our education system, because there should be no way anyone can finish school without even a basic understanding of evolution.
