Am I the only non-Republican who’s hoping no one wins the primaries so we can see the GOP Clown Car pie-fight it out at their convention?

Seriously.

I want to see that dipshit Perry make his case. I want Bootstrap Paul to defend his race war. Hell, I wanna see if ole Newt bothers to show up. And Romney & his magic underwear? Sell that one to the Protestants, darling.

And yes, I’m going nihilistic this coming election year. Hateful cynicism feels better than depressed hope.

What could possibly go wrong?

So Mike Stahl, a pastor based in Florida, wants to create a registry just for atheists. Not to worry though. Physical addresses won’t be released. Just names & photos, organized by state & town. How could such a neutral thing be used for bad things? What reason would an atheist have to be, shall we say, leery of appearing on such a list?

How about using it to do this:

In which case we could begin to witness to them and warn them of the dangers of atheism . Or perhaps they are radical atheists , whose hearts are as hard as Pharaoh’s , in that case , if they are business owners , we would encourage all our Christian friends , as well as the various churches and their congregations NOT to patronize them as we would only be “feeding” Satan . Nothing wrong with that! Only a faux-atheist would resent being ~~proselytized~~ badgered in such a manner. And surely it’s okay to threaten the income of people who refuse to believe the same thing you do. Damn radicals should have stayed ~~off your lawn~~ out of your town to begin with, eh?

One of the ideas surrounding the Tea Party is that it’s about economic issues, not cultural issues such as reproductive rights and LGBT rights. That’s a lie.

As this video from Rachel Maddow shows (starting at about six minutes), the Tea Party is very much about continuing the war on women and gay people. They are, if anything, far more radical than traditional Republicans:

Are you an American? Did you know that 1.5 billion people hate you? Yes, 1.5 billion people hate you. What did you do? Nothing. Besides being born. Oh, you may tolerate bacon, beer and gays too. “They” hate you for that too when they’re not hating you for existing.

Just ask Chris Moran (heh) of Winter Haven who writes:

So the truth is: Burn or don’t burn the Quran, the Muslims will still hate us for existing.

I suppose I can now start claiming that approximately 2 billion people hate me too. My proof of this hatred? This guy. He’s a Christian and he’s against women’s rights. Ergo, 2 billion people hate me.

An aide to Christine O’Donnell seems to be a bit convinced that Obama has spent the last 20 or so years fabricating being a Christian and is, in fact, “still” a Muslim:

Moseley asserted that because Obama had recited to a reporter the Muslim call to prayer (which he apparently learned as a child in Indonesia) he must be a Muslim: “According to Islamic scholars, reciting this Muslim declaration of faith makes one a Muslim.” … Maintaining that Obama attended school in Indonesia as a Muslim, Mosely noted, “Once a Muslim, always a Muslim.”

Why does he think Obama would do such a thing? Taqiyya!:

Islamic teaching encourages strategic deception, when necessary, to advance Islam throughout the world. It is possible that a Muslim could intentionally pose as a convert, in a church that talked about Jesus as only a moral teacher, as Muslims already believe.

The would-be Quran burner, Terry Jones, is looking at a huge bill from the Gainesville Police for the security they provided during his three ring circus:

The Gainesville Police Department said it spent more than $100,000 while the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office spent an estimated $80,000 during the weekend of the planned demonstration.

"We have 286 sworn officers and almost everyone was working either at the Dove Center or at other soft targets," Senn said. "Unless you were sick or injured you were working" the day the burning was to take place.

Not sure they can do this (it’s their job to respond to such situations, right?), but I can’t say that I’m put out too much by it.

Just in case you don’t know, Richard Dawkins doesn’t much care for the pope (via: The Atheist Rabbi):

I really liked how he made a point about the attack on atheists and secularist as being a willful act of distraction by the pope to get people to stop talking about the rampant sexual attacks on children by the employees of the church.
