Science is Interesting XI

Greetings Folks, long time no blogging......

I just saw an RFI (Request for Information) from NASA for proposals on educational MMOs (Massively Muliplayer Online Games). It seems that the NASA Learning Technologies project over at the Goddard Space Flight Center are looking into developing an MMO that would help teach students about STEM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics).

Would you like to know more?

Here's a excerpt from the above site:
Virtual worlds with scientifically accurate simulations could permit learners to tinker with chemical reactions in living cells, practice operating and repairing expensive equipment, and experience microgravity, making it easier to grasp complex concepts and transfer this understanding quickly to practical problems. MMOs help players develop and exercise a skill set closely matching the thinking, planning, learning, and technical skills increasingly in demand by employers. These skills include strategic thinking, interpretative analysis, problem solving, plan formulation and execution, team-building and cooperation, and adaptation to rapid change.

This is an idea I can totally get behind. It involves NASA, science, education and video games...... How could I not support such a plan? If they can successfully develop a scientifically accurate environment for the game, I think it could end up being a pretty decent game.

Westboro Whack-Jobs

Well, Arizona Atheist has posted a BBC documentary on the Westboro Babtist Church that I had seen awhile back. I am surprised that I didn't pass it along when I first watched it..... maybe it's because I posted another short video about them last summer and felt that it was pretty representative of anything you'll ever see about the Phelps family.

I figured I should rectify the situation and forward the documentary along now:

Where’s George?

I just received my first-ever Where's George? dollar bill. If you don't know about these bills head on over to www.wheresgeorge.com. Basically, you enter the serial number to see where the bill has been previously.

The bill I just checked doesn't have a big history on the site. However, one of the past recipients received this bill on stage as a stripper. So, it's nice to know that this particular George helped some guy get a pair of breasts rubbed in his face.

I myself received this bill at a Diamond Shamrock convenience store near my place. There also happens to be a strip club near that Diamond Shamrock. I'm not sure where I'll spend this dollar yet.... Maybe I should pass it along at one of the airports I'll be passing through on my way to Winnipeg for Christmas.

The Weakest Star Trek Link

Well, since I can't seem to sleep yet again (maybe I should start looking into this not sleeping thing), I am going to post a little something I was planning on posting in the morning. Thanks to toomanytribbles and atilio I have watched the Weakest Link Star Trek special.

Apparently they did quite well in the end compared to other past contestants. Although, as was usually the case for this show (and celebrity game shows in general), a few of the answers were completely bone-headed.

Enjoy.
